Etymology[edit]
From Proto-Albanian *dis-banja, prefixed form of *banja (“to appear”), whence modern bëj (“to do, make; (dial.) appear”). Related to Sanskrit भाति (bhāti, “to shine”), Old Irish bán (“white”).[1] Reanalyzable as z- + bëj.
