Borrowed from Hebrew מַיְמוֹן (maymōn) or Arabic مَيْمُون (maymūn) + -ίδης (-ídēs, patronymic suffix). The patronymic represents a translation of the Hebrew בֶּן (ben, son of) or Arabic اِبْن (ibn, son of).
