From Proto-Permic *münni, from Proto-Uralic *mene-. Cognates include Finnish mennä and Tundra Nenets минзь (myinzʹ°).

Permic cognates include Komi-Zyrian мунны (munny) and Komi-Yazva муннө (munnå).
