Preposition[edit]
לְאַחַר • (l'akhár)
- After, at a later time than.
Usage notes[edit]
- This preposition is somewhat more formal than the synonymous אחרי (akharéi-).
- Unlike English after, לאחר cannot introduce a bare clause; rather, the subordinator ש־ (she-) must be inserted.
- Unlike English after, לאחר cannot stand alone as an adverbial; rather, a construction such as לאחר זאת (l'akhár zot, “after that”) must be used.
Synonyms[edit]
- (after): אחרי (akharéi-)
