From Proto-Canaanite *šalōš, from Proto-Northwest Semitic *ṯalāṯu, from Proto-Semitic *ṯalāṯum. Compare Phoenician 𐤔𐤋𐤔 (šlš), Arabic ثَلَاث (ṯalāṯ) and Aramaic תלת (tlāṯ).
