Cognate to Arabic بَاطِيَة (bāṭiya, a kind of earthen vessel for storing wine), Persian بادیه (bâtiye), Classical Syriac ܒܳܛܺܝܬܴܐ (bāṭīṯā), Ancient Greek βατιάκη, βατιάκιον (batiákē, batiákion), Latin batiaca, batioca, batiola.
