Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Indo-Iranian *paršíH, from Proto-Indo-European *pels-íh₂. Cognate with Pashto پرښه (parša), Ancient Greek πέλλα (pélla, stone). See also पाषाण (pāṣāṇa). Compare Ashkun paṣú (mountainslope, side), Kamkata-viri paṣǘ, paṣí (mountainslope, side), Prasuni Uṣǘt (Pashki, literally "place of the rock").
