Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀲𑀼𑀓𑁆𑀔 (sukkha), from Sanskrit शुष्क (śuṣka), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hsúškas, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂sus-. Cognate to Latin siccus, Russian сухой (suxoj). Doublet of शुष्क (śuṣk).
