Marathi[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘮𑘯𑘳 (haḷu), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀳𑀮𑀼𑀅 (halua), which is the metathesis of Sanskrit लघु (laghú).[1][2] Cognate with Hindi हरुआ (haruā), Sindhi ھرِڙو / हरिड़ो (hariṛo), Punjabi ਹੌਲਾ (haulā).
