Sino-Korean word from 配偶者, from 配偶 (“partner”) + 者 (“person”).

- Phonetic hangul: [배(ː)우자/베(ː)우자]
- Though still prescribed in Standard Korean, most speakers in both Koreas no longer distinguish vowel length.
