Etymology 1[edit]
Sino-Korean word from 釜山, from 釜 (“phonogramic character”) + 山 (“mountain”). In the fifteenth century, the place name was written 부산 (富山, Busan), with a different character to represent the presumably native element bu-, of unclear meaning.
