First attested in the Seokbo sangjeol (釋譜詳節 / 석보상절), 1447, as Middle Korean 닉다〮 (Yale: nìk-tá). (This etymology is missing or incomplete. Please add to it, or discuss it at the Etymology scriptorium. Particularly: “semantic borrowing from Chinese 熟?”)
