First attested in the Seokbo sangjeol (釋譜詳節 / 석보상절), 1447, as Middle Korean ᄒᆞᄅᆞ (Yale: hòlò), from Proto-Koreanic *hot (one) + *hoL (day) with intervocalic lenition.
