Etymology

From εὐ- (eu-, “good”) +‎ -κλῆς (-klês, “fame”). Possibly formed as long ago as Proto-Indo-European; compare Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hsućráwas, Latin Vesclevesis and Sanskrit वसुश्रवस् (vasuśravas).
