From Proto-Hellenic *drutómos (whence also 𐀉𐀬𐀵𐀗 (du-ru-to-mo)), from Proto-Indo-European *dóru (tree) (whence δρῦς (drûs, tree)) + *tómh₂os (cutting) (whence τόμος (tómos, slice)), from *temh₂- (to cut).
