Inherited from Byzantine Greek λεμόνι (lemóni) from the form λιμόνι, from Italian limone, from Arabic لَيْمُون (laymūn), from Classical Persian لیمو (lēmō).[1][2]
Cognate with Mariupol Greek лемо́н (ljemón).
