Inherited from Old Ruthenian ба́чити, ба́чыти (báčiti, báčyti), from Old Polish baczyć (to see, to notice, to look), metanalized from Proto-Slavic *obačiti (perfective of Proto-Slavic *ačiti). Related to oko.
