Borrowed from Ukrainian галу́шка (halúška), from Polish gałuszka, from gałka (ball, knob; jaw; testicles), gały (eyes). Compare Russian га́лка (gálka, glass ball), Belarusian га́лы (hály, eyes, buttocks), Slovene gȃłka (oak gall, nutgall) (tonal orthography), Slovak hálka (ball;top of a tower).
