Etymology

From Classical Mongolian ᠳᠥ᠋ᠷᠪᠡᠳ (dörbed); equivalent to дөрвө- (dörvö-, four) +‎ (-d, plural suffix). Compare Kalmyk дөрвд (dörvd), Written Oirat ᡑᡈᠷᡋᡈᡑ (dörböd), Tuvan дөрбет (dörbet), Southern Altai тӧрбӧт (törböt), Kazakh дөрбет (dörbet), Buryat дүрбэд (dürbed), Manchu ᡩ᠋ᡠ᠋ᡵᠪᡝᡨ (durbet), Chinese 杜爾伯特杜尔伯特 (Dù'ěrbótè).
