From пе́чь (péčʹ, to bake) +‎ -е́нье (-énʹje), from Proto-Slavic *peťì, from Proto-Balto-Slavic *pektei, from Proto-Indo-European *pékʷeti, from the root *pekʷ-, whence English cook and biscuit (in part).
