Etymology[edit]
Proto-Nivkh *acik "grandmother, mother-in-law," probably from a Tungusic language.[1] Compare Amur Nivkh атьк (ațk, “mother-in-law”), атьх (ațx, “aunt”), East Sakhalin атим (atim).
