Usage notes

[edit]

Russian has two terms corresponding to tour guide: гид (gid) and экскурсово́д (ekskursovód). These are partially synonymous, but have different accents:

  • гид (gid) is usually a generalist, offering tours for a variety of museums and locations of interest;
  • экскурсово́д (ekskursovód) is usually a knowledgeable specialist, working at only one specific museum.
