An Iranian borrowing; compare Middle Persian [script needed] (aspastān), Persian اسبستان (asbestân), Avestan 𐬀𐬯𐬞𐬋⸱𐬯𐬙𐬁𐬥𐬀 (aspō.stāna), Sanskrit अश्वस्थान (aśvasthāna, stable).[1][2][3] For the constituents see Proto-Iranian *Hácwah and -աստան (-astan).
