Etymology[edit]
The origin is unknown.[1] According to Marr, a shortening of Persian بسد (bosad, “coral”).[2]

Usage notes[edit]
Based on the Ašxarhacʿoycʿ quotation some dictionaries assume also the meaning “a kind of black coral” for this word.
