Inherited from Proto-Turkic *bēšik (cradle); cognate with Azerbaijani beşik, Bashkir бишек (bişek), Chuvash пелче (pelč̬e), Kazakh бесік (besık), Kyrgyz бешик (beşik), Turkmen bişek, Uyghur بۆشۈك (böshük), Uzbek beshik and Yakut биһик (bihik).
