From Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (dntʾn'), 𐫅𐫗𐫅𐫀𐫗 (dndʾn /⁠dandān⁠/), from Old Persian *dantā, from Proto-Iranian *Hdántā (tooth),[1] from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hdántā, from Proto-Indo-European *h₃dént-ō ~ *h₃dn̥t-nés, from *h₃dent- (tooth) +‎ *-ō.
