From Aramaic זַנְגְּבִילָא (zangəḇīlā) from an unattested Middle Iranian from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀲𑀺𑀁𑀕𑀺𑀯𑁂𑀭 (siṃgivera); Arabic زَنْجَبِيل (zanjabīl) and Hebrew זַנְגְּבִיל (zangvíl).
