Etymology

Inherited from Old Hindi ग्यारह (gyāraha), a metathesis of इगारह (igāraha), from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀏𑀕𑀸𑀭𑀲 (egārasa), from Sanskrit एकादश (ékādaśa). Cognate with Konkani इक्रा (ikrā), Marathi अकरा (akrā), Punjabi ਗਿਆਰਾਂ (giārā̃), Gujarati અગિયાર (agiyār), and Bengali এগারো (egarō).
