Borrowed from Classical Persian مقامی (maqāmī), from مقام (maqām) + suffix ـی (-ī), from Arabic مَقَام (maqām), from the root ق و م (q w m). By surface analysis, मक़ाम (maqām, “residence, dwelling”) + -ई (-ī, “a suffix”).
