Etymology

Borrowed from Classical Persian مرحوم (marhūm), from Arabic مَرْحُوم (marḥūm, literally recipient of mercy). Cognate with Hindustani مرحوم / मरहूम (marhūm), Punjabi ਮਰਹੂਮ (marhūm), Gujarati મરહૂમ (marhūm), Sindhi مَرَحُومُ / मरहूम (marhūm).
