From Sanskrit दिक् (dik), nominative singular of दिश् (diś, point). Cognate with Kannada ದಿಕ್ಕು (dikku), Malayalam ദിക്ക് (dikkŭ), Tamil திக்கு (tikku). Doublet of దిశ (diśa).
