From Proto-Sino-Tibetan *dzum ~ tsum (pair). Cognate with Chinese (pair), Korean (ssang, pair). Compare Thai สอง (sɔ̌ɔng, two). Schuessler (2007). Also compares the word to Chinese (to duplicate).
