[edit]From Proto-Lolo-Burmese *s-nakᴴ (“black”), from Proto-Sino-Tibetan *s-nak (“black”). Cognate with Nuosu ꆈ (nuo, “black”), Lolopo neix (“black”), Naxi naq, and Tibetan ནག་པོ (nag po, “black”).
