Etymology[edit]
From Proto-Southwestern Tai *ʰmɔːkᴰᴸ¹ (“fog; mist”), from Proto-Tai *ʰmoːkᴰ (“fog; mist”), from Old Chinese 霧 (OC *moɡs, *moːŋ, “fog; mist”).[1] Cognate with Thai หมอก (mɔ̀ɔk), Lao ໝອກ (mǭk), Tai Nüa ᥛᥩᥐᥱ (mǒak), Shan မွၵ်ႇ (màuk), Ahom 𑜉𑜨𑜀𑜫 (mok), Zhuang mok, Nong Zhuang moag or mog, Saek ม̄อก.
