From Old English Cyningesburh, from cyninges (king's) + burh (fort; manor; town). Doublet of Kingsbury, Kingsberry, Kingsburg, and Kingsburgh. Cf. also Kingstown, Kingston, Kingstone, Kingsville, Coniston, Coniston Cold, Coningsby, and Conington.
