- (Aalten) First attested as horne in 1492. Derived from heurne, a dialectal variant of hoorn (“jutting piece of land”). Not to be confused with the nearby village of De Heurne.
- (Bronckhorst) First attested as Groot Heurne in 1868. Derived from heurne, a dialectal variant of hoorn (“jutting piece of land”).
