New Latin, from Ancient Greek μαλακόστρακα (malakóstraka), from μαλακός (malakós, “soft”) + ὄστρακον (óstrakon, “shell”).

- A taxonomic class within the subphylum Crustacea – most crustacea - crabs, lobsters, shrimps etc., which have soft shells after moulting.
