Etymology[edit]
From Proto-Indo-European *ḱewbh₂-, *(s)kub-, *(s)ḱub- (“shoulder, thigh”), from Proto-Indo-European *(s)kew-, *(s)ḱew- (“to bend, arch, bow”). Cognate with Latin cubitus (“elbow, bend, arch”), Latin cubō (“lie down, recline”).
