Mon ဇဗၠူ (həpluˀ), from Proto-Monic *[s]a-bluuʔ, is likely a compound of Proto-Mon-Khmer *slaʔ (leaf) and this root.

Compare also Thai พลู (pluu, betel) and Chamorro pupulu (< Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *bu-bulu).
