Etymology

From Proto-Balto-Slavic *kainītei. Morphologically from *cěna +‎ *-iti. Cognate with Latvian cienīt (to respect) (from cieņa (respect). The similar cena (price) is a Slavic borrowing), Lithuanian káininti (to price, value) (from kaina).
