Etymology

The exact Proto Balto-Slavic form is contested. Vasmer adduces Lithuanian raišýti, Lithuanian rišti, Lithuanian ryšys, Latin rica as cognates. If so, from Proto-Indo-European *wreyḱ- (to twist, bend).
