The IPA transcriptions on many wiktionary pages reflect overly careful pronunciations. As a general rule, there are only two vowels which occur in unstressed contexts in English: [ə] and [ɨ]. The former occurs as the unstressed variant of most non-front vowels, e.g. in "rosa's" [roʊzəz], while the latter occurs as the unstressed variant of front vowels (/i/, /ɪ/, /eɪ/) or between coronal consonants, e.g. "roses" [roʊzɨz].Lingboy (talk) 13:48, 12 May 2013 (UTC)
Kashubian[edit]
Shouldn't it be augùst? I don't know the year when ò and ù were accepted into the standard orthography. (In native words and older borrowings they're perfectly redundant). 213.134.178.129 18:24, 28 April 2024 (UTC)
- Some loanwords don't show labialization after velars - it might also be aùgùst or aùgust, phonologically. Vininn126 (talk) 08:32, 29 April 2024 (UTC)
