Alternative etymology

There is an alternative interpretation that "modem" is an abbreviation of "mode emulator" in that it emulates digital transmission on an analog circuit. — This comment was unsigned.

Clipping

The linked definition of clipping says it's about truncating a single word. There's also w:en:Clipped compound. But codec uses the term "blend". Whatever the term, it would be nice to have "modem" and "codec" in the same category. Nemo 19:31, 23 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
