Probably from an Old Leonese *andorina (swallow), from a Vulgar Latin root *harundina, from hirundina-, from Latin hirundō, hirundine; cf. also harundō, which may have influenced it. Compare Leonese andolina, Galician andoriña, Portuguese andorinha.
