Etymology

Borrowed from Early Modern Spanish barajar (to shuffle), with metathesis and a loss of final ⟨r⟩. Possibly also from Early Modern Spanish baraja (deck of cards). Doublet of baraha, a later borrowing from Spanish baraja.
