Etymology[edit]
Borrowed from Omani Arabic بالوز (bālōz), from Arabic باليوز (balyōz), from Ottoman Turkish بالیوز (balyoz), بالیوس (balyos, “title of the Venetian ambassador to the Sublime Porte; title of any European envoy”), from Venetian bailo (“title of a Venetian ambassador”).[1]
