Inherited from Old Spanish, borrowed from Andalusian Arabic بِسْنَاج (bisnāj), بِسْتِنَاجَة (bistināja), بِشْتِْنَاجَة (bištināja), بِشْتِنَاقَة (bištināqa, “parsnip”), from Latin pastināca (“parsnip, carrot”).
