Etymology

From Proto-Philippine *bulalakaw (shooting star; kind of spirit), possibly through Hiligaynon or Cebuano. Cognate with Kapampangan bulalako (meteor), Cebuano bulakaw (spirit resembling St. Elmo's fire), Maranao bolalakaw (god of fish), and Tagalog bulalakaw (meteor).
