Etymology[edit]
From Norwegian Nynorsk nordmann and/or from Middle Russian мурманинъ (murmanin), both from Old Norse norðmaðr.
The palatalized spelling burmain is derived from the common Northern Norwegian dialectal pronunciation (compare to mainnj).
