Etymology

A calque of Ancient Greek σαρκοκόλλα (sarkokólla), from σάρξ (sárx, “flesh”) + κόλλα (kólla, “glue, adhesive”) from its traditional use sealing wounds. Compare meat glue and German Fleischleim.
